Admissions

Admission is open to all children irrespective of caste, creed, religion or region, subject to rules of the LRIS.

Admission to Playschool and Lower Kindergarten (LKG) classes commence in January itself on a first-come-first-served basis. Details are shown elsewhere in this Prospectus.

Prospectus and application form for admission can be had from the Office on payment of Rs 100/- (Rs 130/- per DD drawn in favour of “Little Rock Indian School” payable at Brahmavar or Varambally, if they are to be sent by mail).

Transfer Admissions

Classes I to IX: Applications duly filled in, enclosing a copy of the current year’s marks card or grade report issued by the previous School authorities, and a recent passport size photograph must be registered by paying Rs 50/- by cash or Demand Draft before the last dates. There will be an Entrance Test, for Classes II and above. There will be tests for English, Hindi and Maths.

Class I: Class I applicants will have only an Oral Test.

See Admission Process Abstract shown at the end of this Prospectus, for Last Date for submission of Application, Entrance Test dates etc for the various Classes.

Age on admission: A child should have completed five and a half years by June 2006 while seeking admission for Class 1. The same will be the basis for calculation of age for admissions to higher classes as well.

Class XI: A candidate who has completed the All India Secondary School Examination, conducted by the CBSE, New Delhi or its equivalent like ICSE, SSLC is eligible for admission, provided he/she has a consistently good academic record. There will be no Entrance Test, as admission is based on the candidate’s Class X performance.

Transfer Certificates countersigned by the education authorities concerned should be submitted at the time of admission.

Classes X and XII: Only CBSE students are eligible for admission to Classes X and XII. If there are vacancies, admissions will be made on the basis of an Entrance Test. All other conditions are as shown above.

Regular classes will commence on Monday, 15th May for Classes X and XII. It will be a fully residential programme for Class X students.

Classes XI and XII Curriculum

The School offers the Science stream only at the Classes XI and XII level. The following are the subjects available.

English (Core)
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology or Computer Science (Electives)

A note of caution to parents: Parents of children who might seek admission, particularly to Classes IV and above should know that CBSE curriculum is quite demanding, and unless a child has a certain acceptable level of previous knowledge, independent learning skills and inner motivation to learn, it is not advisable to transfer a child to a School like LRIS.

Parents who seek admission or transfer admission are requested to contact the Principal or Vice-Principal directly and are advised not to come through any third person. This caution is necessitated to prevent anyone from taking advantage of the situation by collecting money purportedly for the School. Parents are warned against such possibilities and are requested to inform the Principal if there is any such attempt from anywhere.

It is once again made abundantly clear that the School does not collect any capitation fee or donation in connection with admissions. All the fees payable are listed under “School Fees” in this Prospectus.

It is also made clear that any attempt to influence the decision of the School authorities in the matter of admission will result in the disqualification of the candidate concerned.

Admission to LRIS is a privilege and not a right. The management reserves the right to deny admission to anyone without giving any reason or explanation.

Indian Languages

Every student is expected to study Kannada up to Class VIII and pass the Kannada Exam of Class VIII conducted by the School, to be eligible to appear for the Class X Examination.

However, a student who joins LRIS on transfer at Class VII or VIII will be permitted to continue the third language he/she studied as ‘private study’, in place of Kannada, subject to CBSE rules, and availability of staff for the setting of question papers, and evaluation. Pass in such a third language is a precondition to appear for Class X Examination.

Attendance

Regular attendance in classes is a condition for promotion. A student will not be promoted to the next higher class if his/her attendance falls below 80%. Exceptionally valid cases only will be condoned to a maximum extent of 15% shortage.

The School follows a five-day (Monday to Friday) week schedule. The working hours are from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. There will be no regular classes on Saturdays and Sundays. However, there will be activities like Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, Guides, NCC, Sports and Games, Subject Clubs etc., on Saturdays.

Evaluation, Promotion

Regular unit tests, monthly tests and terminal examinations are held each year and promotion is based on total performance at these tests and exams and regular attendance.

It is the policy of the School not to fail a student as far as possible. At the same time a student who has not acquired the necessary skills to study in a higher class may be not promoted.

LRIS is interested in providing additional possible facilities for slow or weak learners to acquire the needed skills if parents co-operate with the School in this regard. However, the School strongly discourages the practice of excessive home work, rote-learning, special tuition etc.

Scholarships/Concessions

The Little Rock Scholarships: Quality education is expensive. Some parents will find it difficult to educate their children in LRIS though the children might be well suited to study in LRIS. To help such parents, the management of the School provides scholarships or fee concessions to bright but financially handicapped children.

Presently over 200 such scholarships are provided to deserving students. There are various kinds of fee concessions, based on the academic record of the students, and the financial condition of the parents concerned. However, concessions are granted only on the parent’s written request, submission of relevant records, and a subsequent thorough crosschecking of the financial position of the parents concerned. Scholarships and concessions are generally not granted to students up to Class II, and during the first year of admission.

The Little Rock Birthday Fund: This Fund is created to provide concessions, and scholarships to support the financially underprivileged children who study in our School. The source of this Fund is the money that some parents voluntarily contribute on the birthdays of their children.

An Appeal: Parents who are well to do are requested to contribute to one of the above on a purely voluntary basis. Those blessed by God financially have a duty to help their less privileged brethren. Those motivated to help, may make a contribution to this Fund. DD or Cheque towards this purpose is payable to Little Rock Indian School A/c Birthday Fund.

Endowments: A detailed list of endowments for meritorious students is shown as Appendix-1, at the end of the Prospectus.

Admission to Playschool and LKG

Admissions to Playschool and LKG commence in January 2006, on a first-come-first served basis. First instalment of School Fee mentioned in 4.1 and the Capital Expenditure Fee mentioned in 4.2 of this Prospectus are payable at the time of admission.

Children born before 30th November 2002 only will be eligible for admission to Lower Kindergarten Class. Children born between December 2002 and November 2003 will be eligible for admission to the Playschool. A maximum relaxation of two months is permitted at the discretion of the Principal. No further relaxation in this regard will be made under any circumstances, as it is not in the interest of children, to admit them if they are under-aged.

True copy of the date of birth certificate and a recent passport size photograph have to be submitted along with the application for admission to the above classes.

No change in the date of birth will be permitted, once an admission is made. In other words, parents are expected to know that the date of birth entered in the School records will remain the same at all times and is immutable.
