GLOBAL GATEWAY - GLOBAL SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

Little Rock has entered into a partnership with St. Aidan’s  Primary School Billinge, England aiming to raise global awareness, and an increased understanding of the way in which global issues affect the every day lives of individuals, communities and societies.

How it started

It all started with registering our school’s name in the global gateway. We were initiated into this partnership in June 2009 when Karen Benetatos of St. Aidan’s Primary School. discovered our school on global gateway and wrote to us. We promptly replied and our friendship blossomed over exchange of messages. 26 students of Class IV in Little Rock along with teachers started a link up with a group of grade IV students in St. Aidan’s through drawings, exchange of letters and  photographs. Through these initial activities our bond has strengthened and we decided to collaborate on projects.

Our Principal Professor Mathew C Ninan visited St.Aidan’s School while attending a conference on “All our Futures” an Indo-Anglian Principals’ conference at Liverpool U.K. During his visit, presentations on both the schools were made and videos were exchanged. He spent an entire morning session with the children and teachers of the School. It was a heart warming experience, according to Prof. Ninan. No doubt, with this visit our relationship has blossomed further.  Mrs Sherly James is the Co-ordinator of this project.

Our students could complete three cross curricular projects successfully.  The first project was on ‘What I want to be when I grow up’. The second was the “Traveling Teddy” project aimed to compare everyday life in India and England. The third project was exchange of letters on festivals. It has led us to develop mutually beneficial curriculum based on projects. Currently we are working on joint curricular projects which will encourage students to research and exchange information on global issues especially on environment and food.

What this partnership means to us

There has been deep learning through sharing and observation. Students did an excellent work on the cross curricular projects. It was great fun for them. We consider this partnership as one of the most valuable achievements for our school and for the students. We have learnt to respect and appreciate each others culture.   We do anticipate exchange of visits between teachers of the two partner schools in the near future. This will indeed give an entirely new dimension to the partnership, and make it meaningful and exciting.
